Traceability:
Step Two
Back to "Traceability" main page

The process of establishing the traceability of Scotch Premier products
starts with our procurement staff. Each member of our procurement team
knows the farmers from which we acquire our high quality stock and will
know the feeding regime which has been used on each farm.
Currently all stock which is processed at our Inverurie plant is procured
from Scotland's specialist farms - the recognised home of high quality
beef cattle. The vast majority of this throughput is from approved members
of the SQBLA Farm Assurance Scheme.
Procurement staff assess the conformation of each animal and establish
that it will meet our target standards. Whether the stock have been
grazing on pasture, or have been overwintered indoors, the procurement
officer will also look closely at the standards of husbandry and stockmanship
being practised. In making his assessment of stock, the procurement
officer will also check that the animals have valid metal ear tags.
Having accepted the animals, the procurement officer advises consignors
of the documentation which must accompany the animals when they are
being transported to the abattoir.
