Successful SFP Sale

Aberdeen & Northern Marts’ sale of Single Farm Payment Entitlements was once again a success.

815.70 hectare units were sold and the average multiplier of 2.1, based on the standard Euro conversion rate of 0.9093, equalled that of the previous two sales.

17 lots were sold with the highest Euro value of €342.22 and the lowest of €23.90.

28 bidders were logged on to ANM Group’s eBid@liveauction system which allows interaction with a live auction sale via computer and these bidders purchased 16 lots.

John Gregor, Aberdeen & Northern Marts’ general manager said: “This was another successful sale with the same average multiplier as the previous two sales.  There is clearly a better demand for higher value entitlements with many of the low value lots not finding a home.”

The next sale of SFP entitlements will be held on Friday February 26 at 2pm in Thainstone Centre.  Entries for this sale close on Monday February 21.  For further information on the sale contact Alan Donald on (01467) 623753.

Excellent Cattle Entry For Spring Show

The 2010 Royal Northern Spring Show, held at Thainstone Centre on February 24, will see an excellent entry of pedigree and exhibition cattle with over 100 pedigree cattle and 90 exhibition cattle suitable for further showing.

The show and sale event is run by Aberdeen & Northern Marts in conjunction with the British Charolais, Limousin, Simmental and Aberdeen-Angus cattle societies and has seen excellent support from local breeders who are keen to grow Thainstone’s pedigree cattle events.

The 2009 event saw record prices broken in the Charolais, Limousin and Simmental bull classes whilst the Charolais top price broke the Centre price record.  The record breaker, Kinclune Commando, came from John Wilson & Sons, Kinclune, Glenkindie, Alford  This year’s event sees 33 Charolais, 30 Limousin, 15 Simmental, 10 Aberdeen Angus and 4 British Blue bulls forward and 10 Limousin pedigree heifers, PD in calf to a Limousin bull forward.

The exhibition classes will feature a good selection of cattle suitable for further showing at summer and Christmas shows including Thainstone Spectacular and the Aberdeen Christmas Classic.

This year, the show and sale event is supported by a new sponsor, AMC (Agricultural Mortgage Corporation).

Dugald Hamilton, Regional Agricultural Manager for Scotland with The Agricultural Mortgage Corporation plc (AMC), said: "It's very encouraging to see such a good increase in both the number of bulls and show cattle entered for the Royal Northern Spring Show and Sale this year.

“Firm sale prices are reflecting the market for beef which is very buoyant across the country as a result of reduced cattle numbers and a strong consumer demand for good quality beef.  At AMC we are seeing many Scottish beef and sheep farmers requesting finance to improve their businesses for the long term, which suggests there is a good deal of optimism and commitment to producing quality red meat."

Alan Hutcheon, Aberdeen & Northern Marts deputy general manager added: “We have an excellent entry, not just in terms of numbers, but also the quality of the entry.  Last year’s event was a great success and generated a lot of interest amongst breeders.  We are delighted with the support from local breeders to further grow bull sales at Thainstone.”

The show of bulls will begin at 8.30am with the sale at 11.30am whilst the show of haltered exhibition cattle will take place at 11am with the sale starting at 2pm.
