Thainstone Specialist Auctions - December 2007
11th December - TSA’S TOP TIPPLES
More than 370 lots of whisky and memorabilia were sold during an auction held by TSA at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie at the weekend. Saturday (December 08) saw upwards of 100 registered bidders take part in the annual auction. There was also a great deal of activity on the remote bidding system, eBid @ live auction with a number of lots bought by the online bidders. Top price of the sale was £560 which was paid for a very rare 40 year-old Laphroaig Islay malt. Other top prices included a 15 year-old Ardmore pure malt which fetched £480, a 24 year-old Glenlivet special export reserve malt – produced to mark the 150th anniversary of the distillery in 1974 – which sold for £450, two bottles of 12 year-old Glendronach Original single malt which fetched £440 and a 1967 Bowmore vintage Islay malt which went for £320. Commenting on the sale of whisky and whisky memorabilia, TSA general manager Grant Rogerson said “This annual auction traditionally attracts a number of people through the doors in the run up to Christmas. “This year’s event was incredibly successful with 80% of the lots sold which, for a whisky sale was exceptional. We even had some international interest with various sales from overseas.” Below is a picture of the whisky sale in full swing.
