Large crowds are expected to attend the fireworks display, and Grampian Police are urging people planning to attend to arrive in plenty of time and to co-operate with the special traffic management arrangements that will be in place on the night.

11th October 2006 - Crafty Weekend set to go with a bang!

Plans are hotting up for a crafty weekend that is set to go with a bang at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie.

On Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4 the Centre will be the venue for a brand new Christmas craft fair whilst Saturday, November 4 will also see the return of Inverurie’s popular annual bonfire and fireworks display.

The Crafters Christmas Cracker craft fair will take place in Thainstone EXCHANGE between 3pm and 9pm on the Friday and from 10am until 5pm on the Saturday, offering a selection of 80 craft stalls selling wares as diverse as fragranced teddies and Christmas cards.

And on Saturday, November 4 Inverurie Round Table will stage a Bonfire Night family extravaganza that is sure to sparkle.

The bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm and the fireworks display – staged by Fireworx Scotland – will begin at 7pm. The guy for the bonfire is being supply by Inverurie’s Strathburn Primary School.

A parking charge of £5 per car will apply and the money raised will go towards the staging of the event. Any surplus will be distributed by the Round Table among local charities and good causes.

Large crowds are expected to attend the fireworks display, and Grampian Police are urging people to arrive in plenty of time – and to co-operate with the special traffic management arrangements that will be in place on the night. Inverurie-based Inspector Dave Allan explained: “Special constables, traffic wardens and police officers will be on duty from 5pm to assist people entering and leaving the car parks at Thainstone Centre.

“Drivers approaching from Inverurie and Kintore will exit the Thainstone roundabout in parallel then merge into one line of vehicles. They will then be directed towards the main car park and should follow the instructions given by parking stewards. ‘No waiting’ restrictions will apply on the roads around Thainstone Centre and vehicles parked outwith official parking areas are liable to be towed away.

“Pedestrians should obey the officers on duty at the roundabout and on approach roads, and follow their instructions in crossing these busy roads safely.”

Parking for disabled guests will be available near the Barn & Bushel restaurant but will only be open to vehicles displaying official disabled badges.

Inspector Allan also called on members of the public to remain patient when leaving the parking areas at the end of the event, adding: “Delays are inevitable and drivers are asked to remain polite towards the volunteer parking stewards and be prepared for significant delays in leaving the area.”

Commenting on the busy start to November, Thainstone Centre events manager Laura Black said: “The craft fair will give people an excellent opportunity to start their Christmas shopping early in a convenient, out-of-town location which has excellent facilities and plenty of parking on site

“Inverurie’s bonfire and fireworks display have been held at Thainstone Centre for a few years now, and we look forward to assisting in the staging of this hugely popular community event.”
