8th November 2006 - Weekend of family fun draws more than 10,000 people

More than 10,000 people visited Thainstone Centre, Inverurie for a weekend of family entertainment.

With the Thainstone Crafters Christmas Cracker on Friday (November 3rd) and Saturday (November 4th) and Inverurie & District Round Table’s bonfire and fireworks display on Saturday, a busy weekend of events ensured fun for all the family.

Around 2,500 people were welcomed to Thainstone EXCHANGE for a new, two-day craft fair which offered a range of 80 stalls selling a diverse range of goods.

And such was the success of the event that plans are already in the pipeline to repeat the craft fair next year, as Thainstone Centre events manager Laura Poppe explained.  She said: “From the time the craft fair opened at 3pm on Friday, there was a steady stream of people coming and going.

“The feedback from stallholders suggests that they enjoyed a really good couple of days and many are keen to return next year.  With that in mind, the 2007 Thainstone Crafters Christmas Cracker will take place on Friday, November 2nd and Saturday, November 3rd 2007.”

Meanwhile, good weather and the promise of a family night to remember drew the crowds to the Round Table’s annual bonfire and fireworks display on Saturday night.

Commenting on the event, Inverurie & District Round Table fireworks co-ordinator Iain Troup said: “It was a really successful night and there was a great atmosphere, undoubtedly enhanced by the fact that we were so lucky with the weather.

“All the car parks were full so it did take some time for people to leave at the end, but fortunately everyone was very patient.  The traffic arrangements are to be reviewed in advance of next year’s event to see if there is anything that can be done to improve them.”

Thanking all those who were involved in planning and running of the night, Mr Troup added: “A small profit was made at this year’s event, part of which will be put to good use in the community and the remainder will go towards the staging of the 2007 bonfire and fireworks display.

“It is through the generous support of the public that we are able to stage such a wonderful event for the whole community, and we hope that we can count on the support of local people next year too.”
