More than 600 adult head of top quality, naturally fed commercial
breeding stock will go under the hammer on Monday, May 22nd.
The auction is the annual spring sale of beef breeding cattle at
Wardes, Kintore which will be conducted by Aberdeen & Northern
Marts on the instructions of Messrs Mathers.
It will feature 160 Simmental, Limousin and Belgian Blue cross heifers
with spring-born calves, 80 Hereford cross Friesian, Aberdeen Angus
and Simmental cross cows with spring-born calves, 40 Simmental cross
heifers and young cows at calving and 350 Simmental, Limousin and
Aberdeen Angus cross bulling heifers.
The majority are part of a BVD/Lepto vaccination programme, as Iain
Mathers explained: "Having completed the three-week programme of
vaccination as part of this high health scheme, these animals are
now ready to be put to the bull."
Animals that are part of the BVD/Lepto scheme will be identified
in the sale catalogue.
Commenting on the event, Aberdeen & Northern Marts store and
breeding cattle manager Allan Taylor said: "Wardes cattle are renowned
for their general high standard and the entry at this event will
be no exception. Some 350 bulling heifers are part of the tremendous
selection and this is possibly the greatest offering in terms of
quality and quantity available at any one venue this spring.
"The majority of the animals that will be for sale on May 22nd have
been outwintered and fed on a natural, traditional diet. All of
them are now on grass and have a real thriving look about them -
this should have great appeal to the discerning buyer."

At Wednesday's (May 10th) show and sale of commercial
beef breeding cattle, the overall championship was won by Auchnagatt
farmers A. M. Connon & Sons of Skilmafilly
The champion - chosen by event judge Owain Llyr of Ruthin, North
Wales - was a Limousin heifer with Limousin bull calf at foot and
Iain Haig, a nutritionist with show sponsors East Coast Viners Grain,
was on hand to present the Perpetual Cup to Stuart Connon. The overall
champion went on to be bought by Messrs J. Gordon & Co, Waterside,
Forbes, Alford for £2,100.
Meanwhile, the overall reserve champion came from Keith Stewart
& Sons, Greenhaugh, Huntly and the Limousin heifer with Limousin
heifer calf at foot realised £1,650 to Messrs Tait, Ordhill, Tarves.
Mr Stewart also received the Scottish Simmental Club's Perpetual
Trophy for the best Simmental cross heifer with calf from Club representative
David Argo. The winner was a Simmental heifer with Limousin heifer
at calf which fetched £1,400 to Donald Morrison of Oban.
David Argo also presented the prize for the best calf by a registered
Simmental bull to Leonard Harrison, Hill of Fiddes, Udny, Ellon
for a heifer calf by "Scotland Kestral" which was sold with its
mother, a Belgian Blue heifer, for £1,150 to Messrs Stephen &
Gibb, Haremoss, Turriff.
