Two farms at New Aberdour scooped the top honours in Aberdeen
& Northern Marts' summer show and sale of store cattle at Thainstone
Centre, Inverurie yesterday (Friday, July 21st).
Brian Buchan of Clinterty, New Aberdour was the first ever recipient
of a new champion's trophy presented by sponsors Turriff AgriParts
Ltd. It was awarded to his ten-month-old Charolais steer which tipped
the scales at 420kg and sold for £920 to Blair Duffton from Huntly.
It was chosen by show judge Colin Addison of Chapelpark, Methlick,
and George Mearns of Turriff AgriParts Ltd was on hand to present
the champion's trophy to Mr Buchan's grandson, Calum.
Meanwhile, the overall reserve champion was a 424kg 14-month-old
Limousin heifer from A. S. & M. Greig, Killyquharn, New Aberdour
which fetched £610 to Tony Thompson from Thirsk.
The sale saw the average price for steers increase by 13.9p per
kg compared with the same event in 2005, while the average price
for heifers grew by 17.3p per kg.

A new trophy will be presented for the first time at Aberdeen
& Northern Marts' summer show and sale on Friday, July 21st.
The event at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie has attracted an entry
of more than 1,000 store cattle, as Aberdeen & Northern Marts'
store and breeding cattle manager Allan Taylor explained: "The entry
will include an excellent selection of spring and early summer 2005
born cattle, of which many are top draw lots, including several
consignments from Caithness and Orkney."
Sponsoring the show and sale are Turriff Agriparts Ltd, whose Thainstone
branch has been extended and refurbished since 2005 to offer an
increased range of agricultural equipment, spares for tilling forage
and harvesting, pressure cleaning equipment and a wide variety of
water pumps, filters, etc. all to customer demands.
The event will be judged by Colin Addison of Chapelpark, Methlick
and will feature classes for singles and pairs. The exhibitor of
the overall champion will receive the new Turriff Agriparts Perpetual
Trophy and £100 while £50 will go to the consignor of the overall
reserve champion.
The show will begin at 8.30am and the sale will commence at 10am.
The presentation of trophies will take place at 12noon.
