| 20th September 2006 - Scotland's
largest farmer-owned company appoints new director
Scotland’s largest farmer-owned company has just announced the co-option of a new member to its board of directors. The ANM Group Ltd which is based at Thainstone Centre near Inverurie has welcomed Huntly farmer John Gordon to the board of directors to coincide with the retirement of Kenny Mair, Turriff who has been a director since 1992. Mr Gordon is the fourth generation of his family to farm Wellheads, a 1,250 acre unit which comprises 230 suckler cows, 830 mainly Mule and Greyface breeding ewes and 100 acres of barley for home use. All cattle progeny are sold through Thainstone Centre at approximately a year old, and lambs are sold on a deadweight basis to Scotch Premier Meat Ltd’s Highland Lamb plant at Dornoch. Wellheads fell under the industry spotlight in June when it played host to the hugely successful Scotsheep 2006 event and, in addition to being host and co-organiser of that event, Mr Gordon also finds time to be a director of the Royal Highland Show and he is a past president of Huntly Rotary Club. John Gordon lives at Wellheads with his wife Fiona and their children Ewan (11) and Kirstie (8). Commenting on his appointment, Mr Gordon said: “The ANM Group Ltd has been integral to our business for a considerable time. I recognise the company’s important place within the Scottish industry and I am looking forward to playing a part in helping to steer the organisation forward.” Chairman of the board of directors John McIntosh added: “Kenny Mair’s contribution to the board will be missed – his expertise and breadth of practical knowledge was greatly appreciated by his fellow board members. I would also like to express to him my gratitude for the time that he has given to the Group and its member companies over the years. “However, I am also delighted to replace him with someone of
equal calibre and a long-term supporter of the Group. John Gordon
is a young and outgoing individual who has a variety of valuable
characteristics, not least enthusiasm and commitment which were
undoubtedly key factors in ensuring the success of Scotsheep 2006. |
