An exciting development opportunity has arisen in the heart of
rural Aberdeenshire, thanks to A&N (Estates) Ltd.
Nethermill Steading offers the rare opportunity to turn
a farm steading which is steeped in history into five spacious and
desirable family homes, located just half a mile from Tarves.
The steading is for sale with full planning permission in
three lots or as a whole and there is scope to provide a four-bedroomed
house in the former mill – which still houses millstones and
a kiln.
A two-bedroomed dwelling is planned for the former bothy
which, at one time, housed unmarried farm workers and still boasts
an inglenook fireplace. Two four-bedroomed houses and one house
offering three bedrooms are planned for the three further units
which make up the remaining buildings at Nethermill.
One of these is a double roofed cattle court which incorporates
a stone from Tillyhilt Castle which once stood beside the mill burn.
The stone dates from about 1583 and shows a fleur-de-lys and masked
carved face. The story goes that the daughter of Tillyhilt, Agnes,
fell in love with Gordon of Haddo incurring the wrath of the Haddo
family because he was betrothed to the Laird of Udny’s daughter.
The couple are said to have run off to Perthshire to be married,
leaving behind some very disgruntled neighbours!
“Nethermill offers a wonderful opportunity for the
creation of five homes in an outstanding rural setting yet close
to local amenities,” said Ian MacLennan of A&N (Estates)
Ltd. “There is no doubt that that strong sense of history
that surrounds the buildings will enhance their appeal to prospective
buyers.”
