Drumoak Champion Fetches £4,600
Drumoak farmer Ernie Jaffrey lifted the supreme championship at the 2005 Scotch Premier Meat Ltd Christmas Carcase Show on Monday (December 5th).
The event was officially opened by Quality Meat Scotland chairman Donald Biggar who praised the “magnificent display” of beef, lamb and pork that was present at this year’s event and described it as being: “testament to the skills in this part of the world.”
Mr Jaffrey’s 332.6kg Limousin cross heifer was picked by judges Rodney Macken of Macken Brothers, Chiswick, London and Charles Macleod from Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis. Mr Macleod went on to buy the champion for £4,600.
The overall reserve champion – a 313.8kg Limousin cross steer from Ian G. Pirie, Overton of Bruxie, Maud – fetched £2,100 and was bought by Direct Meats, Knights Farm, Chappel, Colchester.
Tain farmer John Scott of Fearn Farm, Fearn scooped the overall championship in the Highland lamb classes and the pair – which scaled 44kg – was bought by Laidlaw Butchers of Aberdeen for £350 each. Shona Milne of Parkdargue, Forgue, Huntly picked up the overall reserve championship and the 38.5kg pair were bought by Campbells Prime Meat of Broxburn, West Lothian for £240 each.
In the pork section, the overall champion weighed in at 57.5kg. It came from David Jamieson, East Nether Crimond and was bought by Davidson’s of Burn Lane in Inverurie for £750. Another local butcher – Gordon Presly of Oldmeldrum – was the buyer of the 58.5kg reserve champion pork which was exhibited by J. M. Gilbert, Womblehill, Kintore.
