Newmacher champions
in Texel prime lamb show
A total of 41 pairs entered Aberdeen & Northern Marts' annual
show and sale of Texel prime lambs at Thainstone Centre yesterday
(Thursday, June 16th).
The event was held in conjunction with the North of Scotland Texel Club
and sponsored by Towns and Carnie Ltd.
Judging the event was Mr A. Ingram, East Comalegy, Drumblade who awarded
the championship to a pair of 44.5kg Texel crosses from D. and A. Ingram,
Chapel of Elrick, Newmachar. The champions went on to sell for £100 each
to Mason Lodge butcher Paul Smith.
The reserve champion pair were 44kg crosses from Graham Shepherd,
Cowiehillock, Echt and they were bought by Mr Ingram for £70 each.
Commenting on the sale, Aberdeen & Northern Marts' prime, store and
breeding sheep manager Colin Slessor said: "A quality entry of pure Texel
and Texel-sired lambs met a good demand despite this week's decline in
prime lamb prices. The champion pair were excellent lambs with tremendous
gigots."
