Winning menu
to delight diners
Thainstone Centre’s acclaimed Barn & Bushel restaurant
is currently serving up dishes created by the winners of the recent
Taste of Grampian secondary schools’ competition.
The competition was sponsored by Quality Meat Scotland, supported
by NHS Grampian Get Set Cook and run as part of Taste of Grampian
2005. It asked teams of two pupils to create a two-course meal for
a Scottish sports personality of their choice, sourcing all ingredients
from the Grampian area and preparing their menus within a £15
budget.
The winning duo – who competed in a “cook-off”
final in front of a live audience at Taste of Grampian on Saturday,
June 10th – comprised Meldrum Academy pupils Kerry Bennett
and Claire Elder who chose to cook for showjumper Ian Stark.
Their menu will now be served during the Barn & Bushel’s
“Taste of Grampian” nights every Saturday throughout
July. It consists of a piebald chicken fillet with a parsley and
peppercorn sauce. Their dessert is rhubarb and strawberry crumble
with a white chocolate custard puddle.
In recognition of their success, the pair each received a £50
voucher and a trophy while Meldrum Academy received £50 and
a trophy. The prizes were handed over by Quality Meat Scotland’s
“Glen” and celebrity chef Sophie Grigson. In addition,
the winners will spend a day in the Barn & Bushel restaurant
at Thainstone Centre preparing their dishes for that evening’s
service.
