01/11/05 - Press Release (issued by the ANM Group Ltd on behalf of the RNCI)

Press Release (issued by the ANM Group Ltd on behalf of the RNCI)

The Royal Northern Countryside Initiative (RNCI) is hoping to enhance one of its main educational resources by hosting a series of training nights.

The November events in Elgin, Inverurie and Stonehaven are aimed at existing and new volunteer link farmers who visit schools with the Countryside Classroom on Wheels (CCOW) – a purpose-built, bio-secure trailer which brings livestock, crop and feed samples to schools. A very popular resource among schools in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray, CCOW visited 15 schools between this year’s Easter and summer holidays alone.

“These evenings will be very informal and we would encourage all new and existing link farmers to attend one,” explained RNCI project officer Sheila Stuart. “The aim is to bring people up to date with current guidelines for CCOW visits so that both the farmers and schoolchildren get the best possible experience from the visit.”

“Even if link farmers have attended similar events in the past or only take part in visits once in a while, we hope that they will come along and bring themselves up to date.”

The first CCOW training evening will take place at Pitgaveny Farms, Elgin on Wednesday, November 9th at 7pm. This will be followed by similar sessions at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie on Wednesday, November 16th and Elsick Estate, Stonehaven on Wednesday, November 23rd. Both will also start at 7pm.

Any farmer wishing to attend one of the CCOW training nights, or find out more, should call RNCI project officer Sheila Stuart on (01261) 842214.
