Sheep Traceability

Scottish Sheep EID Research Pilot

Aberdeen & Northern Marts at Thainstone Centre have been selected as a local partner for the Scottish Sheep EID Pilot Scheme.  This scheme will find out whether we can achieve accurate, rapid and cost effective sheep traceability by using EID in the Scottish sheep flock.

It will provide real and substantial evidence from field working conditions that will help inform decisions in Scotland, UK and Brussels on the practical introduction of EID.

The research pilot will concentrate on sheep movements between farms, marts and abattoirs.   We are looking for partner farms to work with us who consign sheep to Thainstone Centre.

Interested in becoming a Partner Farm?

Partner farms will be required to:

  • Sell lambs through the marts and/or abattoirs involved in the pilot
  • Inform the mart or abattoir of intended movements
  • Tag lambs with electronic tags
  • Measure tag losses
  • Read electronic tags with a handheld reader
  • Download Movement data where possible

Every partner farm will receive double tags –– one will be an electronic tag. A handheld electronic reader will also be supplied for use free of charge.

For further information or if you are interested in becoming a partner farm contact any of our auctioneers or fieldsmen.

Information leaflets available at the main office or log onto www.scoteid.com.
