STORE CATTLE - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (29th January) sold 1,407 store cattle and 49 young calves.

Bullocks (855) averaged 180p (486.5kg), (-1.6p) and sold to 250p per kg for a pair of 240kg Limousin crosses from Bogenraith, Durris and £1,170 gross for a pen of 770kg Limousin crosses from Rigifa, Nigg.
Heifers (521) averaged 170.5p (429kg), (+0.1p) and sold to 229p per kg for a pen of 262kg Limousin crosses from Crichie, Inverurie and £1,105 gross for a pair of 700kg Limousin crosses from Broombrae, Kincardine Oneil.
Bulls (31) averaged 156.3p (+14.5p) and sold to 232.5p per kg for a pair of 200kg Charolais from Whitefield House, Forglen and £920 gross for a pen of 634kg Simmental crosses from Lower Wanford, Banff .
Young and weaned calves (49) averaged £345 and sold to £380 gross.

"Quality yearlings and strong cattle continued at last weeks rates with secondary types easing on the week."

Overall Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 3,122 bales of fodder. Inside barley straw sold to £14.80 per bale to average £12.60. Hay sold to £23 per bale to average £17.70. Silage sold to £13.50 per bale to average £11.88.

Store lambs (845) to £81.80 for Continentals from Keepers Cottage, Stonehaven.
Island sheep (335) to £79.50 for Texels from Kinauld, St Ola.
Breeding Sheep (126) to £132 for Texel grit ewes from Waulkmill, Banchory.
Feeding ewes (884) to £157.50 for Suffolk ewes from  Skelbister, Orphir to average £65.68 (-£5.77).

"Store lambs were dearer on the week. Grit ewes were keenly bid for. Feeding ewes were slightly cheaper".
