STORE CATTLE - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (15th January) sold 1900 store cattle and five young calves.

Bullocks (1099) averaged 183.3p (497.1kg) and sold to 253.2p per kg for a 312kg Limousin cross from Hillocks, Keig and £1,265 gross for 694kg Charolais crosses from Deskie, Glenlivet.
Heifers (762) averaged 174.5p (458.4kg) and sold to 259.3p per kg and £1,400 gross for a 540kg Limousin cross from Groddie Farm, Logie Coldstone.
Bulls (39) averaged 181.9p and sold to 220.1p per kg for a 268kg Charolais cross from Mains of Skeith, Deskford and £1,060 gross for a 672kg Limousin from Braehead Farm, Drummuir.
Young calves (five) averaged £145 and sold to £185 gross.

In the Thomson of Sauchen sponsored 20th Annivarsary Show and Sale of store cattle judged by Tom Stevenson, Balmacolly Farm, Bankfoot, Perth Overall and Home Bred Champion was a 572kg Limousin cross bullock from Smallburn Farms,  Elgin which realised £1,380. Reserve Champion was a 698kg British Blue cross heifer also from Smallburn Farms which realised £1,450, both animals were purchased by the judge.

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (15th January) sold 2535 store lambs, breeding and feeding sheep.

Store lambs (1067) to £79 for Suffolks from Auchtygall, Peterhead.
Breeding Sheep (5) to £44 for Greyface ewes with lambs at foot from Blackriggs, Strichen.
Feeding ewes (1463) to £170 for an Oxford ram from Dykenook, Netherley to average £81.56 (-£13.64).

"Store lambs were slightly easier on the week. A large entry of feeding ewes again sold at extreme rates."
