STORE CATTLE - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (8th January) sold 385 store cattle.

Bullocks (239) averaged 188.3p and sold to 233p per kg for a 412kg Charolais cross from Lagavaich, Glenlivet and £1,260 gross for 714kg Charolais cross from Westerton of New Rayne, Insch.
Heifers (139) averaged 177.8p and sold to 211.8p per kg for 340kg Charolais crosses from Lagavaich and £1,200 gross for a 612kg Charolais cross from Bogentassie, Lumphanan.
Bulls (7) averaged 159.4p and sold to 164.9p per kg for 388kg Aberdeen Angus and £850 gross for a 586kg Aberdeen Angus both from Ballindalloch Home Farms, Ballindalloch.

"Due to adverse weather conditions a reduced entry mostly of forward conditioned cattle were forward and many more could have been sold to advantage to a ringside full of buyers keen to obtain stock".

Heifers to a top of 200p per kg for a 420kg Limousin and £1075 gross for a 560kg British Blue both from Housebay Farms.

Fodder
Overall Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 1870 bales of fodder.  Barley straw sold to £12.60 per bale to average £10.80.  Hay sold to £26 per bale to average £20.30. 
Silage sold to £15 per bale to average £12.70.

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (8th January) sold 758 store lambs, breeding and feeding sheep.

Store lambs (203) to £75.50 for Continentals from Redbanks, Tankerness.
Feeding ewes (555) to £172.50 for Texels from Burnside of Edingight, Grange to average £95.02.

"Centre records were broken for feeding ewes, with the highest ever top prices and averages for all breeds and types".
