STORE CATTLE - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (28th May) sold 507 store cattle and one young calf.

Bullocks (214) averaged 179.9p (+3.2p) and sold to 243.2p per kg for a 370kg Blonde D’Aquitaine from Nether Glasslaw, New Pitsligo and £1,035 gross for a 666kg Simmental and a 720kg Simmental both from Bay, Stronsay.
Heifers (224) averaged 168.4p (-5.1p) and sold to 212.5p per kg for a pair of 400kg Simmental crosses from Mains of Lurg, Nethy Bridge and £935 gross for a 512kg Blonde D’Aquitaine from Nether Glasslaw.
Bulls (69) averaged 140.2p (nc) and sold to 194.2p per kg for a pen of 278kg Limousin crosses from Tillykerrie, Tarland and £810 gross for a 554kg Simmental from Coldomo, Stenness.
Young calves (one) sold for £330 gross.

“An end of season show was forward but quality cattle continued to sell at recent high rates”.

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (28th May) sold 3,029 ewes with lambs at foot, store lambs and feeding sheep.

Ewes with lambs at foot (1680) to £83 for Mule Hoggs with single lambs from Bogiebrae, Rhynie.
Ewe lambs (57) to £76.50 for Suffolks from West Cortiecram, Kininmonth.
Store lambs (452) to £76.50 for Texels from Largie, Kinneff, and Mains of Cairnborrow, Glass.
Island lambs (41) to £70.50 for Cheviots from Gremista Farm, Gremista and Cheviots from Cauldhame, Stromness.
Island sheep (94) to £88.50 for a Charollais tup from Norville, Norby.
Feeding ewes (803) averaged £60.45 (- £5.44) to £116.50 for Suffolks from Tillyeve, Udny.

 “Young and top quality ewes and hoggs with lambs at foot again met an excellent trade, other classes slightly easier on the week. Feeding ewe averages were back but trade was similar.”
