STORE CATTLE - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (7th May) sold 2,549 store cattle and ten young calves.

Bullocks (1,168) averaged 183.9p (-5.6p) (433.4kg) and sold to 233.8p per kg for 470kg Charolais crosses from Brucewells, Netherley and £1,100 gross for a pairs of 652kg and 656kg Charolais crosses and a 620kg Limousin cross all from Ladymill, Alford.
Heifers (1,367) averaged 176.6p (-1.0p) (415kg) and sold to 281.4p per kg and £1,480 gross for a 526kg Simmental crosses from Connachie, Kellas.
Bulls (14) averaged 156.5p (-3.0p) and sold to 201.4p per kg and £850 gross for a 422kg Charolais Burnton Farms, Laurencekirk.
Young calves (10) averaged £383 and sold to £480 gross.

"All classes of well bred natural looking cattle continued to sell well while plainer polished types slightly less. Top breeding potential heifers keenly sought after ".

Heifers to a top of 221p per kg for a pair of 398kg Charolais from Lower House and £1,035 gross for a pen of Charolais from Bay, Stronsay.

Fodder
Overall Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 453 bales of fodder.  Hay sold to £14 per bale to average £12.80.  Silage sold to £14 per bale to average £10.20.

STORE, BREEDING and FEEDING SHEEP - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (7th May) sold 2,201 ewes with lambs at foot, store lambs and feeding sheep.

Ewes with lambs at foot (1,128) to £73 for Texel hoggs with single lambs from Auchtygall, Peterhead.
Ewe lambs (56)
to £115 for Texels from Easthouse, Holm.
Store lambs (403) to £82.50 for Suffolks from Nether Kinmundy, Longside.
Feeding ewes (614) averaged £69.56 (+£4.02) to £119 for Suffolks from Cadgerford, Kingswells.

 “A good show of ewes with quality lambs at foot were once again keenly bid for.  Feeding ewes also continued at last weeks keen rates.”
