STORE CATTLE - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (26th February) sold 477 store cattle and six young calves.

Bullocks (276) averaged 183.4p (469.6kg) (-4.7p) and sold to 230p per kg for a 350kg Simmental cross from Auchroisk Farm, Mulben and £1,180 gross for a 718kg Charolais cross from Boghouse, Tarves.
Heifers (194) averaged 178.4p  (422kg) (+4.0p) and sold to 219.9p per kg  for a 216kg Limousin cross from 36 Oldhall, Watten and £1,105 gross for a pair of 624kg Charolais crosses from Bay, Stronsay.
Bulls (seven) averaged 165.9p (+17.6p) and sold to 195.4p per kg for a 238kg Simmental cross from Overhall, Fyvie and £930 gross for a 604kg Charolais cross from Gerston, Halkirk.
Young calves (six) averaged £343 and sold to £390 gross.

"Store cattle were an excellent trade with a crowded ringside of buyers but a reduced entry was forward due to adverse weather conditions".

Overall Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 2,615 bales of fodder.  Barley straw sold to £16.20 per bale to average £13.60. Outside barley straw sold to £11 per bale to average £9.20. Hay sold to £27 per bale to average £18.95.  Silage sold to £14.50 per bale to average £12.05.

Breeding sheep (5) to £130 for Texel ewes from Newton of Crathie, Ballater.
Ewes with Lambs (40) to £58 for a Texel gimmer from Auchtygall, Peterhead.
Store lambs (452) to £93.50 for Suffolks from Braes of Enzie, Buckie.
Island lambs (82) to £79.50 for Continentals from Haymount, Finstown.
Feeding ewes (706) averaged £62.85 (+£2.59) to £155.50 for Suffolks from Meikle Whiterashes, Turriff.

 “A weather depleted entry of store lambs sold at recent rates. Feeding ewes were a better show and again sold at extreme prices. ”
