STORE CATTLE - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (19th February) sold 963 store cattle.

Bullocks (523) averaged 188.1p (453.9kg) (+6.5p) and sold to 235.9p per kg for a pair of 284kg Limousins from Bankhead, Durris and £1,145 gross for a pair of 720kg Limousin crosses from Cairnfield, Fintray.
Heifers (423) averaged 174.4p (431.4kg) (+3.5p) and sold to 236p per kg for a pen of four 250kg Charolais crosses from 35 Oldhall, Watten and £1,100 gross for a pen of six 674kg Limousin crosses from Blackhillock Croft, Keith.
Bulls (17) averaged 148.3p (-2.1p) and sold to 182.4p per kg and £580 gross for a pen of four 318kg Saler crosses from Cuttlehill Farm, Ruthven.

Overall Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 3140 bales of fodder.  Inside barley straw sold to £14.60 per bale to average £12.53. Outside barley straw sold to £8.60 per bale to average £8.10. Wheat straw sold to £10.40. Hay sold to £25 per bale to average £16.65.  Silage sold to £15 per bale to average £12.80.

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (19th February) sold 2,619 store lambs, breeding and feeding sheep.

Breeding sheep (165) to £140 for Mule Gimmers from Breemies Brae, Lyne of Skene.
Store lambs (1,383) to £79.50 for Leicesters from Morayscairn, Alves
Island lambs (242) to £75.50 for Texels from Midhouse, Harray.
Feeding ewes (829) averaged £60.26 (-£6.57) to £165 for Suffolks from Mains of Tollo, Turriff.

"Grit ewes were again keenly sought after.  Store lambs were once again a mixed entry, with quality lambs selling well.  There were less heavy weight feeding ewes resulting in a reduced average, although trade was every bit as dear".
