STORE CATTLE - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (23rd April) sold 1,896 store cattle and three young calves.

Bullocks (1,017) averaged 188p (-2.4p) (441kg) and sold to 257.6p per kg for 330kg Charolais crosses from Gordonston, Torphins and £1,230 gross for a 778kg Limousin cross from Burn of Aultmore, Keith.
Heifers (870) averaged 181p (-2.6p) (402.4kg) and sold to 280.4p per kg for a 428kg British Blue cross from Clashnoir, Auchnarrow and £1,300 gross for a 694kg Charolais cross from Newton Cottage, Acharacle.
Bulls (nine) averaged 149.6p (-12.3p) and sold to 168.3p per kg for a 416kg West Lodge and £970 gross for a 786kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Meikle Cantlay, Grange.
Young calves (three) averaged £370 and sold to £390 gross.

"A useful selection of cattle continued at recent high levels".

Fodder
Overall Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 1,012 bales of fodder. Inside barley straw sold to £17.80 per bale to average £15.80. Outside barley straw sold to £9.80 per bale to average £9.70. Hay sold to £15 per bale to average £12.20. Silage sold to £15.50 per bale to average £10.80. Turnips sold to £12.50 per tonne to average £10.80.

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (23rd April) sold 1,737 ewes with lambs at foot, store lambs and feeding sheep.

Ewes with lambs at foot (418) to £76 for an Oxford ewe with a single lamb from Mill of Glanderstone, Wardhouse.
Store lambs (647) to £88.50 for Texels from Tullo of Garvock, Laurencekirk.
Island sheep (43) to £85 for Suffolks from Grindigar, Deerness.
Feeding ewes (629) averaged £72.76 (-£3.94) to £115 for Texels from Backhill of Thornton, Bourtie.

 “Top quality ewes with well mothered lambs were very keenly bid for. Heavyweight feeding ewes were cheaper, with all other classes at recent rates.”
