STORE CATTLE - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (16th April) sold 2,002 store cattle and six young calves.

Bullocks (1,243) averaged 190.4p (+1.4p) (420.4kg) and sold to 243p per kg for 358kg Charolais crosses from Lythmore, Bridge of Westfield and £1,150 gross twice for a 700kg Charolais from Shalloch, Mulben and a 692kg Limousin cross from Bendauch, Kinellar.
Heifers (731) averaged 183.6p (+3.0p) (385.2kg) and sold to 309.9p per kg and £1,320 gross for 426kg Limousin cross from Nether Drumallochie, Glenkindie.
Bulls (28) averaged 161.9p (+8.2p) and sold to 252.7p per kg for 182kg British blue cross from Smallburn Farms, Elgin and £820 gross for a 532kg Charolais from Kennieshillock, Lhanbryde.
Young calves (six) averaged £241.66 and sold to £275 gross.

"Overall a lesser show for quality fully maintained last week’s rates".

Overall Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 1,380 bales of fodder. Barley straw sold to £21 per bale to average £16.80. Big Heston bales sold to £27.50 per bale. Hay sold to £15 per bale to average £13.20.  Silage sold to £17.50 per bale to average £11.80. Stock feed Turnips sold at £10.50 per tonne.

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (16th April) sold 2,034 Ewes with lambs at foot, Store lambs and Feeding sheep.

Ewes with lambs at foot (414) to £73 for a bm Cheviot ewe with a single lamb form Broom of Moy, Forres.
Store lambs (769) to £87.50 for Suffolks from Barnyards of Badenyoucher, Cornhill.
Island sheep (44)
to £75.50 for Texels from Kurkigarth, Weisdale.
Feeding ewes (807) averaged £76.70 (- £2.89) to £170 for Suffolk crosses from Skilmafilly, Auchnagatt.

“Ewes with lambs at foot were very keenly bid for. Feeding ewes were also a good sound trade.”
