STORE CATTLE - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (9th April) sold 2,545 store cattle and eight young calves.

Bullocks (1312) averaged 189p (+5.3p) (446.2kg) and sold to 248p per kg for a pen of 254kg Charolais crosses from Little Millbrex, Fyvie and £1,185 gross for a 742kg Charolais cross from Bellfield, Kingswells.
Heifers (1172) averaged 180.6p (+4.0p) (411.3kg) and sold to 235p per kg for a  pen of 276kg Charolais crosses from Highlands, Newmachar and £1,250 gross for a pen of 570kg Simmental crosses from West Maldron, Torphins.
Bulls (61) averaged 153.7p (-13.1p) and sold to 211.8p per kg for a 170kg Simmental cross from Leodibest, Latheron and £895 gross for a 616kg Charolais cross from Culthibert, Tough.
Young calves (eight) averaged £375 and sold to £520 gross.

In the Norvite Feed Supplements sponsored show and sale of store cattle judged by Mr Bruce Walker, Newton of Lewesk, Old Rayne. Overall Champion was a 400kg Charolais cross heifer from G A Mitchell, Campdalmore, Tomintoul which realised £980 and sold to C A Proctor & Co, Mains of Tollo, Turriff. Reserve Champion was a 420kg Limousin cross steer from R & J Greenlaw, Groddie Farm, Logie Coldstone which sold for £880 to the Judge.

Heifers to a top of 175.5p per kg for a pair of 470kg Charolais from Kingshouse and £940 gross for a 632kg Charolais from Nistaben, Harray.

Fodder
Overall Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 1,396 bales of fodder.  Inside barley straw sold to £21.60 per bale to average £18.70. Hay sold to £23.50 per bale to average £17.40.  Silage sold to £14 per bale to average £11.35. Turnips per tonne sold to £12.50 to average £10.80.

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (9th April) sold 2,618 Ewes with lambs at foot, Store lambs and Feeding sheep.

Ewes with lambs at foot (146) to £73 for a Beltex gimmer with twin lambs from Backhill, Castle Fraser.
Breeding sheep (135) to £93 for Texel wm from Balmanno, Stonehaven.
Store lambs (995) to £127 for a continental from from Balmanno.
Island sheep (164) to £90.50 for Suffolks from Haymount, Finstown.
Feeding ewes (1,178) averaged £79.59 (+£10.53) to £165 for Texels from Weston, Deskford.

"Ewes with lambs at foot were short of buyers requirements. Store lambs met a keen demand. All classes of feeding ewes were dearer on the week".
