STORE CATTLE - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (2nd April) sold 1,408 store cattle.

Bullocks (766) averaged 183.7p (-6.7p) 453.2kg and sold to 267.9p per kg for a 168kg Hereford cross from Burnside Croft, Lethenty and £1,170 gross for a 734kg Limousin from Lower Cushieston, Meikle Wartle.
Heifers (612) averaged 176.6p (-9.1p) 418.4kg and sold to 259.7p per kg for a pen of three 154kg Charolais crosses from Midtown, Strachan and £1,240 gross for a pair of four 538kg Simmental crosses from Home Farm, Rothienorman.
Bulls (30) averaged 166.8p (+7.2p) and sold to 193p per kg for a 386kg Simmentals from Harestone, Crathes and £915 gross for a 582kg Simmental crosses from Hill of Fiddes, Udny.

"With a lesser quality show and more fleshy types forward resulting in the decreases on the averages".

Heifers to a top of 211p per kg for a pair of 384kg Charolais from Haymount, Finstown and £950 gross for a 618kg Simmental from Haymount.

Fodder
Overall Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 2,546 bales of fodder.  Inside barley straw sold to £21.40 per bale to average £16.80. Outside barley straw sold to £15.40 per bale to average £11.90. Hay sold to £22 per bale to average £15.94.  Silage sold to £14 per bale to average £11.75.

ABERDEEN ANGUS CATTLE - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (2nd April) sold 751 Aberdeen Angus cattle.

Bullocks (466) averaged 187.1p 432.4kg (+6.1p on the year) to 217.3p per kg for a pen of eight 352kg and £1,035 gross for a pen of three 570kg from Corskellie Farms, Corsiestane
Heifers (285) averaged 175.2p 399.5kg (+4.9p on the year) to 202.2p per kg for a pen of six 324kg from Corskellie Farms and £960 gross for a pair of 578kg from Lynegar, Watten.

In the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society sponsored show and sale judged by Mr J Whytock, Midtown of Haddo, Inverkeithney Overall show Champion was a 568kg bullock from Sinclair Taylor, Ervadale, Rousay, Orkney which realised £1,100 and sold to D & V Buchan,  Savoch, Longside. Reserve champion was a 446kg bullock from R & J Johnston, Hewan, Shapinsay which realised £900 and sold to the judge.

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (2nd April) sold 1,081 Ewes with lambs at foot, Store lambs and Feeding sheep.

Ewes with lambs at foot (61) to £57 for Continental gimmers with lambs at foot from Bogiefeulach, Torphins.
Store lambs (390) to £84.50 for Continentals from Mains of Cowie, Stonehaven.
Island sheep (55) to £89.50 for Suffolks from Brechins, South Ronaldsay.
Feeding ewes (575) averaged £69.06 (-£7.11) to £160 for Suffolks from Kinnermit, Turriff.

“Ewes with lambs at foot were short of buyers requirements. Feeding ewes were generally easier on the week with leaner ewes still selling at good prices.”
