RARE BREEDS - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (5th September) rare breed sale had forward 27 ponies, 10 cattle, 26 pigs, 12 goats, 175 sheep, 708 cages of poultry, 92 lots of hatching eggs, 349 lots of tack, 140 from a bygone era and items of poultry equipment.

At the Annual show & sale of Jacob & Ryeland sheep, judged by Graham Lennox Doonies Farm, Nigg the Champion Jacob was a gimmer from Dun-Mor, Auldhill Road, Bridgend which realised 500gn and Champion Ryeland was a shearling ram from Govals Farm, Kincaldrum which sold to 280gn.

Leading prices: 
Ponies: Welsh sec D 1200gn; Bay mare 1150gn; Welsh sec D colt 1000gn.
Cattle: Highland heifer 750gn; Highland cow with bull calf 680gn; Galloway cross steer 660gn.
Pigs: Gloucester old spot 110gn; 100gn; Berkshire gilts 55gn.
Goats: Pigmy female 100gn; White Saanan 50gn; Anglo 40gn.
Sheep: Jacob ram lamb 280gn; Jacob ewe lamb 250gn; Zwarble gmr 150gn.
Ewes and lambs: Herdwick 100gn; Zwartble 100gn; BFL 50gn.
Poultry: Buff Orpington £170; Pair Peacocks £140; Peahens £120.
Eggs: Plymouth barred large fowl £22; French blue/black maran £20; Silver seabright bantam £18.
Tack: Wide saddle £200; Falcon saddle £140; Solid brass horse £120.
Bygone era and poultry equipment: Set of harness £320; Shetland box cart £200; Collar, hames and bridles £160.
