STORE CATTLE and WEANED CALVES - FULL REPORT
THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (16th October) sold 1583 store cattle including 149 Island weaned calves, Organic store cattle and 55 young calves and weaned calves .
Bullocks (732) averaged 180.4p (+6.6p) and sold to 229.3p per kg for a 314kg Charolais cross from Cluny Home Farm and £1,210 gross for a 652kg Charolais cross from Woodend, Muir of Ord.
Heifers (640) averaged 171.8p (+7.8p) and sold to 228.1p per kg for pen of 274kg Limousin and Simmental crosses from Cluny Home Farm, Sauchen and £1,060 gross for 514kg Charolais crosses from Killyquharn, New Aberdour.
Bulls (17) averaged 154p (-3.8p) and sold to 177.6p per kg for a 428kg Limousin cross from South Byebush, St Katherines and £970 gross for a pen of three 620kg Charolais from Mormond Prop, New Pitsligo.
Young and reared calves (55) averaged £380 and sold to £540 gross.
Island bullocks (85) averaged 215.6p (+46.5p on the year) and sold to 313.1p per kg for a 214kg Charolais cross Grunnins, Ollaberry and £810 for a 454kg Charolais cross from Grindischool, Bressay.
Island heifers (64) averaged 196.6p (+40p on the year) and sold to 250p per kg for a 188kg Charolais cross from Grunnins and £670 gross (x3) for a 346kg Charolais cross from Grunnins, Ollaberry and for a 298kg Charolais cross from South Scord, Muckle Roe and for 314kg Charolais crosses from Barvas Glebe Farm.
Organic bullocks (21) averaged 171.7p (+20p on the year) and sold to 181.8p per kg for a pen of four 264kg Aberdeen Angus from Belmont, Uyeasound, Shetland and £815 gross for 440kg Charolais cross from Glencorrie, Dufftown.
Organic heifers (24) averaged 174.4p (+33.8p on the year) and sold to 181.4p per kg for a pen of 248kg Aberdeen Angus from Belmont and £830 gross for a 528kg Charolais cross from Glencorrie.
In the Closamectin Pour On sponsored show and sale judged by Mr Ivan Keith, Auchtygall, Peterhead.
Overall show champion: was a 338kg Charolais cross Steer from A & N Kerr, Barvas Glebe Farm, Isle of Lewis which sold to £880 purchased by Roy Mearns, Lambslack, Rothienorman.
Best Shetland calf: realised £700 gross for a 288kg Charolais cross Heifer from South Scord, Muckle Roe
