SPECIAL SALE - FULL REPORT

QUOYBRAE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (May 5th) sold 9 cattle and 517 sheep at their Special Sale.

Prime bullocks to 161p for a 600kg Limousin from A H MacKay, West Greenland, Castletown and £1,312.50 gross for a 875kg Charolais from G A D Clyne, Field of Noss, Wick.
Prime heifers to160p twice for 495kg and 525kg Charolais from A D S Black, Tongside, Scotscalder and £884.50 gross for a 610kg Charolais from Field of Noss purchased by
W MacKay & Sons, Butchers, Thurso.

Leading prices:
Bullocks: 160p, £1,176 Brae-edge; 153p, £1,110 Field of Noss.
Heifers: 158p, £750.50 West Greenland.
New Season Prime lambs (5) averaged 214p per kg to 233.7p for two 44.5kg Texels from
D A Budge, Brae-edge, Castletown and £104 gross for the same lambs and two 53kg Suffolks from J Simpson, Pentland View, Barrock, Thurso.
Old Season Prime Lambs (22) averaged 145p per kg to 177.1p for two 48kg Charolais from Brae-edge and £88 gross for a 66kg Texel from W & S McCarthy, Myrelandhorn, Kirk.

Char - £85 Brae-edge; Tex - £80 Boulintogle; £70 Seaview Farm & North Keiss; Chev - £79 Tacher.

Leading prices per kg:
Tex - 176.9p Seaview Farm, Oldwick; 160p Boulintogle; 152.6p Hillhead, Lybster.
Breeding sheep: Texel Ewes with twin lambs - £126 Seaview Farm, Oldwick; Texel Ewes with single lambs - £98 Seaview Farm.
Store lambs (48) averaged £47.63 and sold to £86 for Cheviots from G Cormack, Damside, Castletown.

Feeding ewes (395) averaged £56.83 and sold to £100 for Texels from W P & E Watson, Harpsdale Mains, Halkirk and for Suffolks from J Simpson, Pentland View, Barrock.
