STORE CATTLE - FULL REPORT
THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (9th January) sold 1,657 store cattle and eight young calves
Bullocks (978) averaged 173.4p and sold to 234.4p per kg for a pair of 320kg Limousin crosses from Shenval, Ballindalloch and £1,300 gross twice for a 778kg Simmental from West Adamston, Drumblade and for a 756kg Charolais from Westerton, Old Rayne.
Heifers (682) averaged 166.4p and sold to 232.6p per kg for a pair of 344kg Charolais from Burnside of Whitefield, Forglen and £1,090 gross for a 620kg Limousin from Groddie Farm, Logie Coldstone.
Bulls (17) averaged 147.5p and sold to 176.1p per kg for a pair of 335kg Limousin from Braehead Farm, Drummuir and £1,155 gross for a 754kg Charolais from Inverlochy Farm, Tomintoul.
Young and reared calves (eight) averaged £142.50 per head to £285 gross.
In the H. Thomson and Sons sponsored Show and Sale of store cattle judged by J M Douglas, Wray House, Malton, York. Overall Champion and Home Bred Champion was a 666kg Limousin steer from R. J. Greenlaw, Groddie, Logie Coldstone which realised £1,250 to the Judge.
Reserve Champion was a 438kg British Blue heifer from W. Stewart, Greenfold, Bridge of Marnoch which realised £880.

Bullocks sold to a top of 184p per kg for a pair of 376kg Charolais from Swinster, Sandwick and £970 gross for a pair of 555kg Charolais from Cott, Rousay.
Heifers sold to a top of 194.3p per kg for a 386kg Chaorlais from Swinster and £880 gross for a 510kg Aberdeen Angus from Springvalley, Stronsay.
Fodder
The company sold 2,271 bales. Large Heston bales sold at £28 per bale with mini Heston bales selling at £15 per bale. Round bales of barley straw sold to £8.40 to average £7.40, outside bales of barley straw sold to £5.40 to average £4.70. Hay sold to £21.80 to average £15.80 per bale. Silage sold to £12.20 per bale to average £10.40. Feed barley sold at £90 per tonne.

Store lambs (1,824) to £73 for Texels from The Steading, Pitcaple.
Ewe lambs (24) to £58 for a pen of Suffolks from Mapleview, Lumphanan.
Island sheep (535) to £82 for Continentals from Berriedale Farms, St Margarets Hope.
Feeding ewes (1,508) averaged £50.32 to £86 for Suffolks from the Rowett Research, Bucksburn.
