STORE CATTLE - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (17th April) sold store 2351 cattle and 31 young and weaned calves.

Bullocks (1342) averaged 194.7p (+6.7p) to 268.6p per kg  for a pen of eight 322kg Charolais crosses from Lythmore, Bridge of Westfield and £1240 gross for a 718kg Charolais cross from Hillside Farm, Dufftown .
Heifers (963) averaged 186.3p (+7.3p) to 268.9p per kg and £1140 gross for a 424kg Limousin cross from Crichneylade, Fyvie.
Bulls (39) averaged 174p (+17p) to 212.2p per kg  for a pair of 311kg Limousins from Bogs of Blervie, Forress and £800 gross for a 478kg Limousin from Hill of Fiddes, Udny.
Young calves and weaned (31) averaged £445 per head and £500 gross.

"Store cattle were a superb show for quality and were an electric trade from start to finish".

Fodder
Overall Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 1570 bales. Inside barley straw sold to £8 per bale to average £6.50. Outside barley straw sold to £3.60 per bale to average £3.10. Hay sold to £19 per bale to average £11.20. Silage sold to £12 per bale to average £10.40. Turnips sold to £12 per tonne to average £10.40.

Ewe lambs (22) to £95 for Half Breds from Middlehill.
Ewes with lambs (618) to £57.50 for Continentals with lamb and a half from Bogiefeulach, Tornaveen.
Feeding ewes (1,197) averaged £61.80 (-£13.88) to £137 for Suffolk’s from Oldmill, Strichen.

“Ewes with lambs at foot again met an excellent demand. A poorer of feeding ewes were easier on the week”.
