PRIME CATTLE - FULL REPORT:


THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (May 8th) 153 prime cattle, and 198 OTM cattle.


Prime bullocks (79) averaged 152.8p (+1.9p) and sold to 168p per kg for a 600kg Limousin from Hillside, Fetternear to Woodhead Brothers, Turriff and £1,295.25 gross for a 785kg Limousin from Windyedge Croft, Aberchirder to C Anderson, Dumfries. 

Prime heifers
(66) averaged 153.1p (+3.8p) and sold to 170p per kg for a 520kg Limousin from Learney Home Farm, Torphins to C Anderson and  £1,109.60 gross for a 760kg Charolais from Thorneybank, Clochan.

Young bulls (eight) averaged 127p (+6.5p) and sold to 160p per kg and £1,224 gross for a 765kg Charolais from Lingland, Occumster.


Beef cows (142) averaged 114.4p (-3.26p) and sold to 142.1p per kg for a 630kg Limousin from Braehead, Drummuir and £1,075 gross for a 920kg Charolais from Bogloch, Lumphanan. 

Dairy cows (eight) averaged 94.44p (+17.38p) and sold to 111p per kg and £755 gross for a 680kg Friesian from Backhill of Seggat, Auchterless. 


Farrow bulls (13) averaged 104.39p (-11.14p) and sold to 122.5p per kg and £1,225 gross for a 1,000kg Limousin from Moss-side of Gight, Fyvie.

Heifers (24) averaged 120.4p (-2.42p) and sold to 143.9p per kg for a 490kg Limousin from Mameulah, Newmachar and £915 gross for a 670kg Simmental from Raich, Forgue.

Steers (11) averaged 122.14p (+1.77p) to 143.8p per kg for a 685kg Limousin from Upperton, Fyvie and £1,125 gross for a 920kg Simmental from Moss-side of Gight.

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (8th May) sold 2,074 prime lambs.


New season lambs (173) averaged 177.4p per kg (+5.3p) and sold to 250p per kg and £120 gross for the Champion pen of 48kg Suffolks from Gaval, Fetterangus.


Old season lambs (1,901) averaged 150.2p per kg (-0.4p) and sold to 169.3p per kg for 44kg Cheviots from Nether Hawkhillock, Ardallie and £78 gross for 60kg Texels from Darnford, Durris.


New season SQQ up to 45.5kg (78)
averaged 192.4p per kg (+10.2p).


Old season SQQ up to 45.5kg (1,433) averaged 153.6p per kg (-3.2p).


Aberdeen and Northern Marts held their annual show and sale of Suffolk lambs in conjunction with the North East of Scotland Suffolk Sheep Club. There were 43 pairs forward with Gary Raeburn, 7 Bogie Street, Huntly as the Judge.


Champion pen of lambs was awarded to A. M. Watson & Son, Gaval for a pair of 48kg pure bred Suffolk’s realising £120 per head and 250p per kg to the Judge. 

Reserve pen was a pair of 60kg pure bred Suffolk’s H. Stuart & Son, Davishill, Udny which realised £90 per head to C. Kirkpatrick, Dumfries.
