THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (25th January) sold 830 store cattle nine young calves and 15 adult head of breeding cattle.
Bullocks (523) averaged 138p (p) to 175.4p per kg for a 342kg Limousin from Achdregnie, Glenlivet, and £1,000 gross for a 754kg Limousin from Newseat of Schivas, Ythanbank.
Heifers (305) averaged 136p (p) to 168.5p per kg for a pen of 279kg Limousin and Charolais from East Mains Pennan, New Aberdour, and £730 gross for a 502kg Limousin from Denmill, Peterculter and for a 500kg Limousin from Westerton, Echt.
Bulls (two) averaged 104p (-16.6p) to 104.2p per kg and £715 gross for a 686kg Charolais from Knockhall, South Ronaldsay.
Young and reared calves (nine) averaged £130 per head to £165 gross.
"With the anticipation of increases in beef prices, all classes met the strongest trade so far this year with many buyers leaving short of requirements."

The company sold 2,155 bales. Barley straw sold to £6 per bale to average £5.20. Outside barley straw sold to £3 per bale to average £2.20. Hay sold to £12 per bale to average £8.20. Silage sold to £8.60 per bale to average £6.90.

Store Lambs (1,672) to £47.50 for Suffolks from Briach, Rafford, Texels from Inschbruich, Cornhill and Continentals from Inver Croft, Tain.
Ewes and lambs (18) to £39 for and Suffolk gimmer and lamb from Auchtygall, Peterhead.
Feeding ewes (1,611) averaged £29.66 (+£5.04) to £54 for a Texel from Wester Biffie, Maud.
"Store lambs were once again dearer. Feeding ewes were a better show, but they were also slightly dearer."
