THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (22nd February) sold 3,228 store lambs, breeding and feeding sheep.



Store lambs (1,524) to £54.50 for Texels from Gellybrae, New Deer.

Ewe lambs (59) to £53.50 for Suffolks from Cauldwells Craigston, New Byth.

Island lambs (332) to £48.50 Texels from Georth Farms, Evie.

Breeding sheep (19) to £32 for Cheviot ewes from Conrock Farm, Rothes.

Ewes and lambs (131) to £32 for Texels from Smallburn Farms, Elgin.

Feeding ewes (1,163) averaged £33.85 (+£4.33) to £75 for Texels from South Tillydesk, Ellon, Suffolks from Beechlea, Cairnorrie and Suffolks from Davishill, Udny.

"All classes of store lambs were keenly bid for. Feeding ewes were also an excellent trade."

Bullocks (651) averaged 147.7p (+3p) to 195.8p per kg for a pen of 263kg Charolais from Battlefield, Aberchirder and £1,000 gross for a 716kg Limousin from Ardivot Farm, Lossiemouth.

Heifers (517) averaged 143.3p (+0.3p) to 181.6p per kg for a pen of 267kg Simmentals from South Bogbain, Keith and £940 gross for a 572kg Limousin Groddie Farm, Logie Coldstone.

Bulls (15) averaged 115.6p (+2p) to 125p per kg for a pair of 368kg Shorthorns from Doonies farm, Nigg and £870 gross for a 714kg Charolais from Helenamore, New Aberdour.

Young calves (Seven) averaged £156 per head and £345 gross.

"In keeping with prime prices store cattle are finding a higher level".

Silage sold to £7.40 per bale to average £6.10. Turnips sold at £21.50 per tonne and potatoes sold at £20 per tonne.
