THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (8th February) sold 1,291 store cattle and one young calf.



Bullocks (741) averaged 140.4p (+2.4p) to 189.8p per kg for a pen of five 274kg Charolais from Bethlin, Midmar and £1000 gross for a pair of 745kg Continentals from Mains of Knockhall, Newburgh and for a 792kg Charolais from Caskieben, Kinellar.


Heifers (509) averaged 138.2p (+5.2p) to 172.8p per kg for a 382kg Limousin from Boginduie, Aberlour and £860 gross for a pair of 498kg Simmentals and a 538kg Simmental all from West Malloch, Banchory.


Bulls (41) averaged 115.9p (+6p) to 142.9p per kg for a 280kg Limousin from Cairnorrie Farm, Methlick and £650 gross for a 584kg Limousin from Meetlaw, Fordoun.

The company sold 1,090 bales. Inside Barley straw sold to £5 per bale to average £4.20. Oat straw sold at £4 per bale. Hay sold to £12.40 per bale to average £8.20. Silage sold to £8 per bale to average £6.60. Turnips sold at £360 per acre to average £310.

Breeding sheep (370) to £71 for 3 crop Texel ewes from Home Farm Druminnor, Rhynie. Ewes and lambs (164) to £41 for Continental wm ewes from Bogiefeulach, Tornaveen.


Island sheep (371) to £50 for Texel store lambs from Georth, Evie.


Feeding ewes (859) averaged £31.20 (+£6.34) to £62 for Texels from Haremoss, Cuminestown.
