THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (11th April) sold 2,356 store cattle and seven young calves

Bullocks (1,351) averaged 152.5p (+p) to 210.2p per kg for a 352kg Limousin cross from Buchaam Farm, Strathdon and £1030 gross for a 684kg Limousin from Newbigging, Dinnet.


Heifers (969) averaged 146.6p (+p) to 322p per kg for a 264kg Belgian Blue from Sunnyhillview, Shandscross, Turriff and £930 gross for a 600kg Charolais from Ardiecow, Fordyce.


Bulls (36) averaged 133.8p (+7.2p) to 164.8p per kg for a 176kg Limousin from Salterhill, Elgin  and £650 gross for a 546kg Charolais from Mains of Knockhall, Newburgh.


Young calves (seven) averaged £140 per head and £260 gross.


In the Norvite sponsored show and sale of store cattle judged by Mr Tony Thompson, 48A Markey Place, Thirsk, Overall champion was a home bred Limousin 416kg steer   shown by Messers A and J Nairn, Clashnoir, Auchnarrow, Ballindalloch which realised £810 to Messers Hamilton, Bee Edge, Eyemouth. Reserve Champion was a home bred Belgian Blue 386kg steer from Messers W and N Milne, Milton of Edinglassie, Strathdon which sold at £780 to Backmuir Trading Ltd, Keith.

The company sold 2,090 bales. Inside Barley straw sold to £4.40 per bale to average £4.02. Hay sold to £10.60 per bale to average £7.40. Silage sold to £8.60 per bale to average £7.80.

Ewes and lambs (384) to £55 for wm Suffolks with single lambs from Achavelgin, Nairn. Feeding ewes (730) averaged £38.56 (+£3.22) to £79 for Texels from Milton of Noth, Rhynie.
