THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (26th October) sold 1,139
weaned calves, 1,210 store cattle, 68 bulls and 51 young calves.
Weaned calves
In the Novartis animal health sponsored Show and Sale of weaned and suckled calves judged by Mr Will Hamilton, Bee Edge, Coldingham, Eyemouth the Overall Champion was a 296kg Charolais heifer from Smallburn Farms, Rothes which realised £960. Reserve champion was a 358kg Charolais steer from Brucewells, Netherley which realised £1,200.
Bullocks (626) averaged 149p and sold to 301p for a 246kg Limousin from Mid Fleenas, Nairn, and £740 for a 246kg and 294kg Limousin from Mid Fleenas, and a 294kg Belgian Blue from Meikle Geddes, Nairn.
Heifers (513) averaged 134p and sold to 272p per kg for a 294kg Limousin from Mid Fleenas and £880 gross for a 328kg Limousin from Smallburn Farms.
Store Cattle
Bullocks (795) averaged 123.5p (+1.1p) to 144p per kg for a 520kg Simmental from Cardenstone, Cushnie and £855 gross for a 676kg Charolais from Overton, Bilbster.
Heifers (415) averaged 120.3p (+0.4p) to 163p per kg for a pen of three 417kg Simmental from Essil, Garmouth, and £850 gross for a 736kg Charolais from Blelack, Dinnet.
Bulls (68) averaged 109.15p (-20p) to 133p per kg for a pen of three 342kg Limousin from Nether Lenshie, Rothienorman, and £750 gross for a 720kg Aberdeen-Angus from Culdrain, Gartly.
Young and reared calves (51) averaged £150 per head to £385 gross.
