STORE CATTLE - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (5th October) sold 1,466 store cattle and young calves.


Bullocks (958) averaged 115.6p (nc) to 139.7p per kg for a 390kg Charolais from Broynach Farm, Thurso and £870 gross for a pair of 700kg Simmentals from Redhill, Mosstowie.

Heifers (503) averaged 113.4p (nc) to 158p per kg for a 532kg Limousin and £860 gross for a 580kg Limousin both from 48 John Morrison Crescent, Maud

Bulls (5) averaged 95.4p (nc) to 109p per kg for a 486kg Blonde D'Aquitaine from Newton Farm, Tullynessle and £600 gross for a 638kg Aberdeen Angus from Craigour Farm, Glassel.

Young and reared calves (31) averaged £115 per head to £245 gross.
"Strong well presented fleshy cattle met a remarkably good trade while leaner secondary types harder to sell."

"Mule ewe lambs met a better than expected trade. Store lambs were difficult to sell with some lots showing a lack of condition. The demand for breeding sheep was very hesitant"
