STORE CATTLE - FULL REPORT
THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern
Marts (20th July) sold 1,198 store cattle.
At the Annual show and sale of store cattle and weaned calves judged by
Alan and Philip Smith, Cairnadailly, Ellon kindly sponsored by Turriff
Agri-Parts Ltd, the Champion of the show was a 580kg, 22 month old, Limousin
cross steer from A. S. & M. Greig, Killyquharn, New Aberdour realising
£900 to the Judge's. The reserve award went to a 400kg 12 month
old Charolais cross bullock from B. Buchan, Clinterty, New Aberdour which
realised £610 to Mr B. Duffton, 2 Bogie St, Duffton.

Bullocks (602) averaged 132.8p (-2.4p on the year) to
170p per kg for a pen of 285kg Charolais from Tullo of Garvock, Laurencekirk
and £850 gross for a pair of 656kg Limousin from Brokenfolds, Turriff.
Heifers (572) averaged 127.1p (-0.3p on the year) to
197p per kg and £880 gross for a 446kg Limousin from Todholes, Deskford.
Bulls (24) averaged 98.8p (nc) to 126p per kg and £520
gross for a pair of 481kg Limousin from Northfield, Gamrie.
"With an outstanding selection for quality on offer and contrary
to expectations prices were on a par with last year."

Marts (20th July) sold 641 store, breeding and feeding sheep.
New season store lambs (103) to £45
for Oxfords from Doonies Farm, Nigg.
Ewes & lambs (99) to £31.50 for Cheviots
from Marvsey, Lybster.
Feeding ewes and rams (439) averaged £26.20
(-£0.59) and sold to £60 for Texels from
Littlehowes, Holm and Texels from Skelbister, Stromness.
"A small entry of store lambs was short of buyers requirements.
Feeding ewes again met a good sound trade."
