STORE CATTLE - FULL REPORT

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (31st August) sold 704 store cattle and 9 young calves.

At the August show and sale sponsored by UK Farm Finance Ltd judged by I. Pirie, Overton of Bruxie, Maud the Champion was a 658kg Limousin from Mr B. Duffton, 2 Bogie St, Huntly realising £940 to the Judge. The reserve award went to a 526kg Charolais heifer from M. Rainnie, Loanhead, Logie Coldstone which sold for £700.

Bullocks (458) averaged 121.7p (nc) to 146p per kg for 414kg Belgium Blue from Mains of Draidland, Gamrie and £825 for a 728kg from South Croft, Cornhill.

Heifers (243) averaged 117.7p (nc) to 140p per kg for a pair of 400kg Simmentals from Burnside of Idoch, Turriff and £725 for a 572kg Charolais from Cruehill, Toab.

Bulls (three) averaged 97.3p (nc) to 109p per kg and £650 gross for a 594kg Limousin from Geise Farm, Thurso.

Young and reared calves (nine) averaged £158.33 per head to £220 gross.

"Strong conditioned cattle met a very keen demand while longer keeping and rougher types more in buyers favour."

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (31st August) sold 1,195 store, breeding and feeding sheep.

Store lambs and Island Lambs (692) to £37 for Suffolks from West Balbithan, Kintore.
Breeding gimmers and ewes (44) to £57 for Suffolk gimmers from Kapua, Bruntbrae.
Feeding ewes (459) averaged £27.50 and sold to £60.50 for Charollais from Rothiemoon Farm, Nethy Bridge.

"Store lambs met a keen demand and were short of buyers requirements. A small entry of feeding ewes was also a very good trade."
