Aberdeen and Northern Marts, Thainstone

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (15th September) sold 625 weaned calves, 829 store cattle, six dairy cattle and 11 young calves.
In the Ledingham/Chalmers LLP sponsored show and sale of weaned calves judged by Mr S Reid, Milton of Campfield, Glassel the overall champion was a 424kg Belgian Blue heifer from Clashnoir, Auchnarrow, Glenlivet which realised £1,000 and the overall reserve champion was a 542kg Charolais bullock from Brucewells, Netherley realising £880.
Weaned calves
Bullocks (377) averaged 139.7p (+25.8p on the year) to 187p per kg for
a pair 257kg Charolais from Calier, Auchnarrow and £980 gross for
a 550kg Aberdeen-Angus from Eastfield of Monaltrie, Ballater. An average
increase of £110.14 per head on the year.
Heifers (248) averaged 128.8p (+19.2p on the year) to 168p per kg for
a 392kg Aberdeen-Angus from Eastfield of Monaltrie and £735 gross
for a 480kg Limousin from Clashnoir. An average increase of £71.18
on the year.
