THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (8th September) sold 637 store cattle and 26 young calves.

Bullocks (447) averaged 131.4p (+1.1p) to 178p per kg for a 400kg Aberdeen Angus from Odiness, Stronsay and £895 gross for a 668kg Limousin from Redhill, Mosstowie.

Heifers (171) averaged 126.6p (-0.3p) to 171p per kg for a 420kg Belgian Blue and £850 gross for a 568kg Belgian Blue both from 2 Bogie Street, Huntly .

Bulls (19) averaged 110.3p (-16.2p) to 134p per kg for a pen of 372kg Limousins from Cowford, Blairs and £700 gross for 642kg and 648kg Simmentals from Cranbog, New Pitsligo.

Young and reared calves (26) averaged £82 per head to £225 gross for a Charolais bull calf.

"An excellent show of strong bullocks and heifers were considerably dearer as were quality yearlings."

SHEEP

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (8th September) sold breeding, store and feeding sheep.

Store lambs (2,504) to £41.80 for Suffolks from South Essie, St Fergus. Mule ewe lambs (545) to £74 from Mill of Fowlis, Muir of Fowlis and from Mains of Glenbuchat, Strathdon.

Breeding gimmers and ewes (92) to £66 for Suffolk gimmers from Wester Corskie, Aberchirder. Feeding ewes and rams (723) averaged £24.23 (-£2.96) to £45 for Suffolks from Redbanks, Tankerness.

“At the annual mule ewe lamb sale an outstanding top end amongst the entry, saw the best lambs fetch an excellent trade. Store lambs were easily dearer on the week”
