STORE SHEEP - SALE SUMMARY

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (4th October) sold 11,826 breeding, store and feeding sheep.

Store lambs (3,725) to £44.50 for a pen of Suffolks from Malt Croft, Kildrummy. Ewe lambs (395) to £61 for a pen of Mules from Mains of Glenbuchat, Strathdon. Island Sheep (1830) to £41 for Suffolks from 1 Hillock, Dunrossness. Breeding gimmers and ewes (4334) to £79 for Mules from Wardhead, Strichen. Breeding rams (54) to £380 for a Blue Faced Leicester shearling from Smallburn Farms, Elgin. Feeding ewes and rams (1488) averaged £18.42 (-£8.68) to £50 for Texel ewes from Auchorachan, Glenlivet and for a BFL ram from Newton of Hassiewells, Rothienorman.

“Store lambs were a more mixed show for quality, however top lots easily maintained recent prices. Breeding sheep were dearer on the week. A large number of small and leaner feeding ewes sold at recent rates”.
