Aberdeen and Northern Marts, Thainstone

THAINSTONE, at their show and sale Aberdeen and Northern Marts (21st July) sold 853 store cattle and eight young calves.

Champion of the show was a 420kg, ten month old, Charolais cross steer from B Buchan, Clinterty, New Aberdour realising £920 to B Duffton, 2 Bogie St, Huntly.

The reserve award went to a 424kg Limousin cross heifer from A S and M Greig, Kilyquharn, New Aberdour which realised £610 to T Thompson, Thirsk.

Bullocks (515) averaged 135.2p (+9.3p) to 208p per kg for a 414kg Limousin from Mayne Farm, Elgin and £880 gross for a 724kg Charolais from South Croft, Cornhill.

Heifers (319) averaged 127.4p (+6.7p) to 178p per kg for a pair of 349kg Limousins from Mayne Farm and £760 gross for a 610kg Charolais from Woodend Farm, Auchterless.

Bulls (19) averaged 106.4p (-6.4p) to 130p per kg for a 354kg Limousin from Woodend and £630 gross for a 555kg Simmental from Woodend.

Young and reared calves (8) averaged £70 per head to £150 gross.

Store lambs (94) to £53 for Suffolks from Mansefield, Huntly .

Feeding ewes and rams (822) averaged £34.16 (+£1.09) to £75 for Texels from Mid Haddo, Fyvie.
