Aberdeen and Northern Marts, Thainstone
Friday 15th December 2006.
THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (15th December) sold 325 store
cattle, seven young calves and nine breeding cows.
Bullocks (181) averaged 132.9p (+4.2p) and sold to 175p per kg for a pen
of 263kg Charolais from Torry, Glass, and £890 gross for a pen of
730kg Charolais from Muirhill Farm, Longhaven.
Heifers (121) averaged 124.3p (-3.7p) and sold to 158p per kg for a pen
of 282kg Belgian Blues from Harestone, Crathes, and £710 gross for
a 592kg Aberdeen Angus from Ballogie, Estate, Ballogie.
Bulls (23) averaged 115.3p (-0.6p) and sold to 131p per kg for a 498kg
Belgian Blue and £680 gross for a 570kg Charolais both from Harestone.
Young and reared calves (7) averaged £140 per head to £195
gross.
"Store cattle numbers were short of buyers requirements which resulted
in and excellent trade to finish off 2006."

Hay sold to £14 per bale to average £13.10, silage sold to
£11.80 per bale to average £10.40 and stock feed turnips sold
at £16 per tonne.
SHEEP
THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (15th December) sold 1,385 store,
breeding and feeding sheep.
Ewe lambs (50) to £40.50 for Blackfaces from Old Spittal, Glenshee.
Store lambs (613) to £41.20 for Suffolks from Delnabo, Glengairn.
Breeding gimmers and ewes (60) to £88 for WM Suffolks in lamb from
Silverlea, Memsie. Feeding ewes and rams (662) averaged £17.72 (-£6.80)
and sold to £46.50 for Texel crosses from Coldhome, Dallas.
“Store lambs once again met a fast selling trade. A small entry
in the feeding sheep ring had a larger percentage of light weight ewes,
but trade was definitely easier”.
