Aberdeen and Northern Marts, Thainstone
Friday 8th December 2006.
THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (8th December) sold 663 store
cattle, three young calves and adult head of breeding cattle.
Bullocks (404) averaged 128.7p (-5.0p) and sold to 209p per kg for a 318kg
Limousin from Meikle Geddes, Nairn, and £860 gross for a 692kg Charolais
from Mossend, Keith.
Heifers (226) averaged 128p (+2.9p) and sold to 285p per kg and £780
gross for 274kg Belgian Blue from Shiel, Muir of Fowlis.
Bulls (33) averaged 115.9p (+8.8p) and sold to 131p per kg for a 339kg
Charolais from Harestone, Crathes, and £540 gross for a 434kg Charolais
from Harestone.
Young and reared calves (3) averaged £40 per head to £95 gross.
"Strong cattle were a good show and met a grand trade. Yearlings
and calves a useful selection, were, again dearer."

Heifers sold to 135.7p per kg for 394kg Limousins from Redbanks, Tankerness,
and £560 gross for a 420kg Limousin from Redbanks.

Spring calving cows:

The company sold 620 bales.
Hay sold at £14.40 per bale, silage sold to £11 per bale to
average £10.20. Haylage sold at £12 per bale and turnips sold
at £18 per tonne.
SHEEP
THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (8th December)
sold 2,199 store, breeding and feeding sheep.
Ewe lambs (52) to £52 for Suffolk ewe lambs from Auchorthie. Store
lambs (785) to £45 for Suffolk crosses from Auchorthie, Maud.
Breeding ewes (13) to £85 for a Suffolk 2yrs from St Johns Wells,
Fyvie. Feeding ewes and rams (1,349) averaged £24.52 (-£2.31)
and sold to £50 for a Texel cross ewe from Nether Beanshill, Milltimber.
“A smaller entry of store lambs were dearer on the week, feeding
ewes slightly less money”.
