Aberdeen and Northern Marts, Thainstone

THAINSTONE, Aberdeen and Northern
Marts (1st December) sold 630 store cattle, eight young calves and five
breeding cattle.
Bullocks (300) averaged 133.7p (+4.6p) and sold to 185.3p
per kg for eight 259kg Charolais from Cairntack, Belhelvie and £875
gross for a 706kg Charolais from Gaval, Fetterangus.
Heifers (290) averaged 125.1 p (+3.1p) and sold
to 165p per kg for 246kg Limousin from East Mains Pennan, New Aberdour
and £695 gross for a 562kg Simmental from Dubford, Turriff.
Bulls (40) averaged 107.1 p (-10.3p) and sold to 128p
per kg for 352kg Simmentals from Black Castle, Ardersier and £680
gross for a 598kg Simmental from Little Whitefield, Forglen.
Young and reared calves (eight) averaged
£215 per head to £315 gross.

The company sold 625 bales. Hay sold to a top of £13.40 per bale
to average £12.40. Haylage sold at £14.50 per bale. Silage
sold to £10.40 per bale to average £10.10.

Store lambs (1,931) to £40 for
Continental lambs from 5 West Murkle, Thurso.
Breeding rams (12) to £90 for a Suffolk shearling
from Bogfon, Maryculter.
Feeding ewes and rams (1,528) averaged
£26.83(-£0.02) and sold to £50 for
a Texel ewe from Maryfield, Rothienorman.
“Store lambs met a more hesitant demand, feeding ewes maintained
last weeks trade”.
