OCDS Announcement

OLDER CATTLE DISPOSAL SCHEME (OCDS) - THE FACTS

The OCDS ends on 31 December 2008. This means that to be considered for OCDS compensation the animal must be presented and killed at an OCDS abattoir or presented dead at an OCDS disposal site by this date.

On farm kill animals must have suffered an accident that requires their immediate slaughter.

All animals to be slaughtered at an abattoir must be booked in by 30 September 2008.

To book an animal into the scheme you must contact your local abattoir, market or marketing group direct.

To secure a slot you will have to provide the animal's ear tag number and your CPH. Without this information the slot is not secure and at peak could be lost to someone who can book their animal in correctly.

Slaughter slot availability at each abattoir is regularly updates on the RPA website at www.rpa.gov.uk.

Book early to avoid disappointment.

After 31 December 2008 there will be no scheme available for compensating producers for animals born before 1 August 2008.

Disposal costs post OCDS are likely to fall to the producer.

Sending pre August 1996 cattle to a clean abattoir is an offence.

Any queries regarding the OCDS can be directed to the OCDS Helpline on 0118 9687333.
